70’s Flashback

Happy Monday all!

Apparently the 70’s are trending this Fall which is funny because it is true when they say everything old is new again. Some of my favorite memories from the 70’s are my older sisters dancing to “Soul Train” on Saturday afternoons, wearing “gauchos” (aka culottes), watching “Godzilla” movies from under a table ( I was terrified of Godzilla!)  and wearing my hair in two large afro puffs which garnered me the nickname “Mickey Mouse”.  To pay homage to my favorite 70’s memories, I decided to pull out my “gauchos” and head back in time!

Later this week, I’ll be headed to NYC to spend Thanksgiving with my family so I want to wish you all a SAFE & HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

  1. Good morning sis, ya know, obviously i do not know you personally, but i have learned a lot about you through your blog. First thing is, you must be courageous, confident, self-sufficient, a “go-getter”, resilient, organized and resourceful. How else could you have developed this medium you use to connect with like women on the advantages of being a curvy woman. I applaud you for that. All of those skills mentioned above are what you need to get through college as a non-traditionally college-aged person. While in this process you will often feel like you are pulled from every part of your life. The word “overwhelmed” is an understatement. If you are like me, you want to know if life is unaware that you are trying to get that paper done, or study for that exam or prepare for a group project; doesn’t life realize you are busy developing yourself? Here’s my 10cents, take a break if you are overwhelmed, but DO NOT give up. Trust and believe it will get better. If you are taking a full load, reduce it to part-time status and if there is a semester where you have to take a leave, do that too. You are on your own clock, no one else’s. I know. because I did it. I once took a break for two years, but I went back and when I finished my undergrad in 1999 at the age of 41, it was the most amazing day in my life, so far. I have since gone on to finish my masters degree and just 4 classes away from the start of the dissertation process. I almost gave up on attaining the Ph.D, but I realized I MUST FINISH. So I will return to the process, next year. Keep striving my sister, but at your own pace. My prayers are with you that you find some balance and give yourself a break. Regards, Frances

  2. You look so elegant Ms. G! Love how you classed up the gauchos (that’s how I remember them too, LOL) . By the way, I found Ms. Frances’s words very inspiring as well!

  3. I don’t think you’ve ever worn an outfit I didn’t like – a lot. And I too remember gouchos. I’ve been wanting to get a pair because they’re perfect for disabled women on wheels: all the prettiness of a skirt, without the worries about undies showing when we’re sitting/wheeling. That jacket and blouse are great, and I always like your hair curly.
